I'm excited to share this beautiful talk with Sandra Gutierrez, a bilingual, award-winning journalist, food historian, professional cooking instructor, and author of six cookbooks. She is considered one of the top national experts on Latin American Foodways and on the United States Southern Regional cuisine. Sandra discovered the New Southern-Latino culinary movement in 1996, a rare and impressive achievement. This conversation is full of knowledge, history, and wisdom.
In 2021, Gutierrez was honored by the Smithsonian Institute as a Woman to Know and as one of the seven Latinas Who Shaped American Culture. Sandra also has a permanent exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution, which features Kate Blohm Photography.
Her most recent book, Latinísmo: Home Recipes from the Twenty-One Countries of Latin America is the first of its kind. Also, her first book, The New Southern-Latino Table is being re-released in paperback in August 2025. Sandra is also a founding member of the Les Dames d’Escoffier NC chapter.
